Sometimes—but the products solve the connection differently. CData’s current Xero Power BI Connector supports Import and DirectQuery and exposes a queryable connector model. Datplan instead pulls supported source data into the customer’s Windows environment, performs reporting ETL, and publishes prepared fact-and-dimension files for Power BI and other reporting tools.

Decision checklist
If the answer is yes—especially when DirectQuery is a hard requirement—CData is the more natural fit. Its current connector is built for Power BI connectivity and gives the report author a queryable route into Xero data.
If the problem is not merely connectivity but repeated data preparation, Datplan is designed for that middle layer. It stores the pulled data in the Windows workflow, applies source-specific transformations, publishes fact/dimension outputs and keeps reconciliation visible.
CData offers many driver technologies and data sources. Datplan deliberately does not compete on connector count. It is a focused reporting application for supported finance/CRM sources, with dashboards, scheduling, exports and audit-oriented analysis around those sources.
Datplan can continue to use previously pulled local reporting data when the live provider is unavailable or the user is offline. That is different from a DirectQuery design, where the reporting experience is more dependent on the live connectivity path.
A technically successful connection does not prove that a P&L, balance sheet or invoice analysis is using the right grain. Whichever route is chosen, finance teams should reconcile important measures to the source and understand whether they are using statement totals, account activity, document headers, lines or payments.
