Audit Analytics for Xero and QuickBooks

Review unusual accounting patterns—and inspect the evidence behind them

Datplan Audit Analytics applies the same seven configurable analyses to supported Xero and QuickBooks populations. Each chart links to Audit Evidence so the user can move from an indicator to the underlying records that need professional review.

Seven analyses, one review workflow

Audit tests designed to surface records worth investigating

The analysis identifies an exception or pattern; the reviewer decides what it means. Parameters such as population, period, threshold, tolerance or matching behaviour remain part of the audit judgement.

Audit widgetDefault chartWhat it does
Benford's LawCombo Bar + LineCompares observed first- or second-digit frequencies with expected Benford frequencies. It is an indicator, not a fraud conclusion.
Exceptional valuesHorizontal ColumnShows the largest values meeting a user-selected threshold for the chosen population and period.
Period-end activityColumnCounts transactions posted within a configurable number of days of each month end.
Round amountsHorizontal ColumnFinds values close to configurable round-number multiples and tolerances.
Possible duplicatesHorizontal ColumnGroups records sharing counterparty, date and amount, with optional reference matching.
Post-period reversalsColumnFinds opposite-value entries matching within a bounded period after period end.
Rare high-value counterpartiesHorizontal ColumnHighlights high-value transactions involving counterparties that occur only rarely within the selected population.

Audit Evidence drill-down

The chart is the start of the review, not the conclusion

A flagged month, digit pattern, duplicate group or reversal is useful only if the reviewer can inspect what produced it. Audit Evidence exposes the underlying records used by the selected analysis so the exception can be traced back to transaction-level detail.

This makes the workflow suitable for documented investigation: identify the population, run the test, review the exceptions, inspect the records and record the professional conclusion outside the chart itself.

ISA (UK) 240 and ISA (UK) 315

Useful analytics around fraud risk and risk assessment—not an automatic compliance claim

Datplan helps turn accounting data into reviewable indicators and evidence. The standards determine the auditor's responsibilities; the software does not replace those responsibilities.

ISA (UK) 240 — fraud

The FRC published ISA (UK) 240 (Revised March 2026) on 30 April 2026. It is effective for audits of financial statements for periods commencing on or after 15 December 2026 and strengthens or clarifies responsibilities relating to fraud, including risk assessment.

ISA (UK) 315 — risk assessment

ISA (UK) 315 addresses identifying and assessing risks of material misstatement. Its current revision is not a new 2026 rule: the July 2020 revision became effective for periods beginning on or after 15 December 2021.

Where Datplan fits

Use the seven analyses to support risk identification, transaction selection and exception investigation. They are not prescribed by the standards, do not prove fraud and do not by themselves satisfy an audit standard or form an audit opinion.

Same contract across both accounting sources

Xero and QuickBooks get the same seven audit questions

That consistency is useful for firms or finance teams that review different client accounting platforms but want a repeatable analytics approach.

Xero Audit Analytics

Run the seven analyses on the supported Xero population, then inspect the Audit Evidence records behind the result.

Professional-review boundary. Datplan Audit Analytics surfaces indicators and supporting records. It does not determine intent, prove fraud or error, replace source documentation, replace the accounting platform's own audit trail, select all procedures required for an engagement, or certify compliance with ISA (UK) 240, ISA (UK) 315 or any other professional standard.

Audit Analytics questions

What the seven tests do—and do not do

Which accounting sources support Audit Analytics?

The Audit Analytics contract provides the same seven analyses for Xero and QuickBooks: Benford's Law, exceptional values, period-end activity, round amounts, possible duplicates, post-period reversals and rare high-value counterparties.

Does a Benford or exception result prove fraud?

No. These analyses identify patterns or records that may justify further professional review. A result is not a conclusion that fraud, error or misconduct occurred.

How can Datplan support ISA (UK) 240 work?

Datplan can help an auditor or finance professional analyse selected accounting populations, identify exceptions and inspect the records behind them. The revised ISA (UK) 240 contains broader responsibilities, risk assessment, responses, communication and documentation requirements that no single analytics screen can satisfy by itself.

Is ISA (UK) 315 a new 2026 standard?

No. The current ISA (UK) 315 is based on the July 2020 revision, which became effective for periods beginning on or after 15 December 2021. It remains relevant because it addresses identifying and assessing risks of material misstatement.

Can I inspect the records behind an Audit Analytics chart?

Yes. Each of the seven analyses has an Audit Evidence drill-down so the user can review the underlying records used by that analysis rather than relying on the chart alone.
