Microsoft's March 2026 Power BI update states that the QuickBooks Online connector would not be supported after March 2026. It says customers cannot create new connections after retirement and that existing connections might stop working.

Plan a migration, not a switch
Datplan is not a drop-in replacement for Microsoft's retired connector. A replacement source can expose different tables, column names, accounting grains and refresh behaviour. Preserve the current PBIX and its output, document every required field and total, build the replacement model alongside it, and reconcile before removing the retired query.
How can Datplan replace the retired QuickBooks Power BI connector?
Use Datplan to handle the authorised Intuit connection, supported API pulls and local table preparation. Power BI reads the resulting fact and dimension files instead of relying on the discontinued Microsoft connector. The model is refreshable, but it is file-based rather than live.
Migration checklist
Protect the existing report while rebuilding its data layer
A controlled parallel build is safer than editing the only working PBIX in place.

A report is reliable only when each total is calculated from rows representing the intended accounting unit.

Recurring refresh
Keep the Datplan job and Power BI job independently observable
Datplan can refresh a selected QuickBooks company and rewrite stable files on a supported schedule. Power BI Desktop can then refresh those files. For a published report, Power BI Service needs its own access to the organisation's storage, commonly through an on-premises data gateway or another Microsoft-supported route.
Check both timestamps. A successful Power BI refresh against yesterday's files is technically successful but still stale; a successful Datplan export followed by a failed Power BI refresh is current at the file layer but not in the published report.

Is the Microsoft QuickBooks Online Power BI connector retired?
Yes. Microsoft announced that the QuickBooks Online connector would not be supported after March 2026. After retirement, customers cannot create new connections and Microsoft warned that existing connections might stop working.
Is Datplan a drop-in replacement for the retired connector?
No. Datplan uses its own prepared accounting tables and stable file exports. Existing Power Query steps, relationships and measures must be mapped to the Datplan grains and reconciled before the previous connection is removed.
Is Datplan a live QuickBooks DirectQuery connector?
No. Datplan refreshes QuickBooks data through its Windows app and writes local reporting files. Power BI then imports or refreshes those files; it does not query QuickBooks live through Datplan.
Which QuickBooks data can Datplan prepare for Power BI?
Supported data can include company and accounting setup, customers, vendors, invoices, sales receipts, bills, payments, credits and accounting reports such as profit and loss, balance sheet, trial balance and general ledger. Actual coverage depends on authorisation, QuickBooks subscription, plan and current Intuit API support.
Can the QuickBooks and Power BI refreshes be scheduled?
Supported Datplan plans can schedule the selected QuickBooks company and file export. Power BI Service refresh is configured separately through a Microsoft-supported file-access or gateway route, and both stages must be monitored.
Does the Datplan workflow require a hosted accounting-data warehouse?
No. Datplan can keep the supported QuickBooks dataset and reporting files in the local Windows workflow. A hosted database or warehouse may still be preferable for continuously available access, central governance, very large models or many cloud consumers.
