TallyHelp documents native exports. A finance team that needs a periodic control total can begin with a native report and use it as a reference while building the Power BI model. TallyPrime export guidance

Keep the voucher and its allocations separate

Imagine a ₹10,000 expense voucher assigned ₹6,000 to Operations and ₹4,000 to Sales. The cost-centre allocation table has two rows. A total from that table uses the allocated amounts and returns ₹10,000. A model that puts the entire voucher amount on both rows and sums that column returns ₹20,000.

Give the voucher table a key that identifies one record for the intended company. Use separate transaction details for ledger, inventory and cost-centre measures when those details have different grains. Document the signed amount and whether the field includes tax. Keep source identifiers so someone can trace a surprising value back to the voucher.

Reconcile a small scope first

Choose one Tally company, a closed period and one ledger group. Export a control report for those filters, then compare both the number of relevant vouchers and the total amount. Check these examples separately.

  • A voucher split across more than one cost centre.
  • A voucher with no cost-centre assignment.
  • A return or reversal with a negative reporting amount.
  • An item that is bought in one unit and reported in another.

An unassigned bucket helps retain unmatched costs in the control total. Decide which costs should carry a cost centre, then give the finance team a list of cases that need follow-up.

Keep extraction and Power BI refresh separate

A local extraction writes the files. Power BI refresh reads those files. If a scheduled extraction depends on a Windows PC, the source application and the correct company being available, test that operating arrangement before relying on it for month-end. Retain the last completed export date and log any failed pull.

Use a small, stable model to start with. Add inventory valuation and multicurrency treatment only when you have agreed how to reconcile them. Compare a saved control report after adding each new relationship. Microsoft guidance on fact tables and relationships

Datplan DataPull prepares supported TallyPrime reporting tables on Windows. The prepared files can feed Power BI and other reporting tools. Datplan also supplies browser dashboards with English and Hindi interface labels for compatible exports. These are useful separate reporting options when different clients need different levels of customisation. Datplan’s TallyPrime reporting workflow
